VMI Baseball on the Road at Richmond

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team hits the road Tuesday for its next-to-last scheduled non-conference game of the season at the University of Richmond. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m., moved up from 2:30 due to the threat of inclement weather.

The Spiders got past VMI in both contests last season, 10-3 at Richmond on March 8 and 8-4 in Lexington on March 23.

A couple of Keydets had impressive numbers for the month of April. Red-shirt junior outfielder Justin Nase, boosted by a four-hit game Saturday against Western Carolina University, hit .313 in 15 games. He had a double, a triple and scored four times with a .405 on base percentage. Sophomore Jed Barrett took over starting shortstop duties and has responded at the dish. In 15 games with 13 starts he has hit .270 with nine runs scored, tied for second on the squad. He drew eight walks in April to up his on base percentage to .413.

Richmond (21-18) is coming off a three-game sweep of St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. The Spiders won the first game Friday 13-6 and followed with 8-5 and 8-4 victories Saturday and Sunday.

VMI travels to UNCG this weekend for a three-game Southern Conference series starting Friday at 6 p.m.
