LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team travels to Mercer University this weekend for its last Southern Conference road series of the 2022 season. The three-game set at OrthoGeorgia Park is set to begin Friday at 6 p.m., followed by contests Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Keydets swept the Bears last season in Lexington.
Nathan Light threw eight strong frames in game 1's 4-2 victory to earn the win while
Adam Jewell earned his first of two saves in the series.
Zac Morris was 3-4,
Justin Starke doubled and homered and
JT Inskeep also had two hits. Starke had three hits, including a walk-off two-run single in a 5-4 win in game 2 and the Keydets took the third game 10-0 in seven innings.
Cole Jenkins drove in four runs and Starke was 3-3, making
Tyler Bradt a winner in his first start of the season on the mound.
Mercer (36-12/9-6) started this SoCon season off strong with sweeps of The Citadel and UNCG, but was swept at Western Carolina University last weekend.
VMI (15-33/5-10) has a busy week at home next week, hosting four games, beginning with Old Dominion University at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Gray-Minor Stadium. The Keydets then welcome Wofford College for a three-game SoCon series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
