LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team returns to Gray-Minor Stadium this weekend after a two-week absence with a three-game series against Western Carolina University. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Friday. 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Sophomore infielder
Brett Cook has been swinging a hot bat all season, but even more so in April. He has a .375 batting average in 12 games this month, with three doubles, a triple and three home runs. Cook has walked three times and has been hit by three pitches to boost his on base percentage to .447 while his slugging is .725. He has a team-best 11 RBI and eight runs scored this month as well.
In the recent series at ETSU, Cook hit .462 in the three games with a double, a triple and a home run, slugging .923 with an on base percentage of .563.
The Catamounts swept VMI last season in Cullowhee, N.C., but the Keydets have a 5-4 record against WCU the last nine games. Included in that record is a three-game sweep in Lexington during the 2018 season.
Western Carolina won two of three games against The Citadel last weekend while ETSU rallied for three wins against VMI.
VMI has three SoCon series remaining after this weekend as the regular season winds down, at UNCG May 6-8, at Mercer University May 13-15 and at home against Wofford College May 19-21.
