LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team travels to Virginia Tech Tuesday for a non-conference game on English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
The Hokies defeated VMI in Lexington 13-4 on March 29, where the Keydets left 17 runners on base.
Will Knight,
Ty Swaim and
Brett Cook each had three hits for the Keydets and
Cole Jenkins had two.
Both teams won important conference series this weekend. VMI won the first two games against The Citadel 5-2 and 3-2 and now has a 3-3 record in Southern Conference play. Virginia Tech is coming off an ACC series win against then second-ranked Miami, taking the first two games of the series in Blacksburg 12-5 and 13-2.
Zac Morris started all three games against the Bulldogs at second base and hit .400 with a double, a home run and three runs scored. Knight hit .375, as did
Reeves Whitmore. Cook had a batting average of .364 and delivered a walk-off single to score
Justin Nase and cap VMI's 3-2 win Friday evening.
Nathan Light worked 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen in the Friday game and allowed just one hit, one walk and no runs with five strikeouts.
Will Riley earned a win and a save over the weekend, throwing 2 1/3 frames of shutout ball with five strikeouts.
Trey Morgan got the win in the series opener on Thursday, working seven innings and giving up just five hits, no walks, two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Virginia Tech has a 23-9 overall record and was ranked eighth overall this week by D1baseball.
VMI (12-25/3-3) resumes Southern Conference play this weekend at ETSU.
