LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team welcomes The Citadel to Gray-Minor Stadium this week for a three-game series. The Southern Conference games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
The two teams have met 121 times, dating back to 1955, with the Bulldogs holding an 84-37 edge. VMI swept The Citadel last season in three games in Charleston, 13-5, 9-5 and 5-4.
Tyler Bradt and
Nathan Light were two of the winning Keydet pitchers.
Justin Starke hit .500 with a triple, four runs, four RBI and a .625 on base percentage.
Zac Morris batted .417 with a double, a home run, three stolen bases and four RBI.
Will Knight hit .357 and
Cole Garrett batted .300 with seven RBI.
Despite a three-run home run from sophomore
Brett Cook, VCU defeated VMI 6-4 Tuesday evening. Cook finished 2-4 with two extra base hits while
Jed Barrett had a hit and a walk.
Cole Garrett tripled and
Cole Jenkins also had a hit.
Jack Thompson tossed 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no runs with two strikeouts.
Traylor Duval closed the game out with two scoreless frames with two strikeouts.
The Keydets are 1-2 in conference play, while the Bulldogs are 0-3, dropping three games at Mercer University last weekend. The Citadel is 18-13 overall, while VMI is 10-24.
