LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team has two mid-week games slated this week, hosting Virginia Tech Tuesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Radford University Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Keydets are slated to play five games this week, with a three-game series at UNC-Wilmington this weekend.
The Keydets are 8-15 overall but 7-6 at home. In 13 games in Gray-Minor Stadium, red-shirt sophomore
Justin Starke is hitting .510 with seven home runs, 21 runs and 17 RBI. Sophomore
Brett Cook is hitting .429 in 11 games at home with five doubles and six home runs. Starke has a 1.020 slugging percentage while Cook is right behind at .976.
The Hokies come to Gray-Minor with a 14-6 record and a four-game winning streak. Virginia Tech defeated #12 Notre Dame 10-5 on Friday, but the rest of the ACC series was postponed due to snow in South Bend, Ind.
Virginia Tech, ranked #22, rallied to defeat VMI 7-5 in Blacksburg last season.
Trey Morgan went 3-5 with a double for the Keydets, and
Justin Starke had two hits.
Radford is 7-16 thus far in 2022 with a contest at ETSU slated for Tuesday evening. The Highlanders dropped two of three at home against USC-Upstate this past weekend.
Radford defeated VMI in Lexington last season 12-3, despite Morgan and Starke each recording two hits.
