LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's water polo team dropped a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches Sunday in Clark King Pool, 28-12 to Wagner College and 14-10 to Iona College. Wagner is ranked #14 this week in the Collegiate Water Polo top 25 while Iona also received votes.
Makenna Moore had five scores for VMI against Wagner and
Courtney Novotny had four.
Sydney Shettleroe posted a goal and an assist and
Kiara Anguiano and
Gia Donatelli also scored.
Genevieve Petrassi,
Caragh Osborne and
Maddie Berry each recorded three assists.
Sofia Diaz Alvarez scored nine times and had three assists for Wagner.
The Keydets had a balanced scoring attack against Iona, as Anguiano, Petrassi, Novotny, Moore and Shettleroe each had two goals. Petrassi added two assists as did
Ellie Pickford. Moore blocked three shots and
Katie Lloyd made 10 saves in net.
Jordan Van Reeken had five goals and two assists for the Gaels and Mary Jane Bailey made 12 saves.
VMI (3-15) travels to New York next Saturday to face Wagner (10 a.m.) and Iona (3 p.m.).
