LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team will host Rider University (N.J.) this weekend in a non-conference series from Gray-Minor Stadium. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
VMI fell 5-1 Tuesday at #15 North Carolina, the fifth game that VMI (8-8) has faced a top 25 opponent this year.
Will Knight and
Trey Morgan each had two hits for VMI and
Brett Cook drove in the Keydet run.
Jed Barrett walked and was hit by a pitch and
Cole Garrett also had a hit.
The Keydet bullpen didn't allow a hit after the fifth inning.
Tyler Bradt and Morgan each tossed perfect innings and
Will Riley threw 1 2/3 scoreless frames.
For the season,
Justin Starke is pacing the Keydets with a .419 batting average, 21 runs and 18 RBI. He has a .500 on-base percentage with an .855 slugging percentage. Knight is hitting .351 on the year with 16 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Rider (6-8) is playing a two-game series at #17 Virginia Tuesday and Wednesday. The Broncs lost 14-4 in Tuesday's game.
VMI is 8-2 all-time against Rider, including taking two of three in Lexington in March of 2016.
