Keydets Sharp on Day One of SoCon Indoor Championships

Day 1 Results

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI track and field teams showed well on Day One of the 2022 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility. 

The VMI men's team currently stands in sixth place overall with 13 points while the VMI women are presently in seventh overall with eight team points.

Senior Ingrid Joseph highlighted the day for the women's team with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.73 seconds before arriving in sixth in the 200 meter in 25.29 seconds.

Freshman Eleyah Armstrong came in fifth in the 60 meter in 7.73 seconds before placing fourth overall in the long jump at 5.72 meters.

The distance medley relay squad consisting of Naomi Hahn, Ahliyah Williams, Marissa Linkous and Gretal Shank came in seventh place in 13:00.36. Shank also competed in the 800 meter and finished eighth overall in 2:20.93.

Ellie Miller earned an eighth-place mark in the shot put at 11.52 meters ahead of Jenna Kirkland's 11th-place distance of 10.61 meters.

In the 400 meter dash, Williams arrived in 11th place in 59.11 seconds, and Emily Wells placed 15th overall in the mile run in 5:56.57.

Freshman Yvonnia Perrello competed in the pentathlon and finished in 11th place with 2337 points.

Day Two of the SoCon Indoor Championships will start with the men's heptathlon at 9 a.m., the women's triple jump at 10 a.m. and the men's weight throw 10:30 a.m.

"The women and men had personal bests while the VMI track and field alumni from '66-'20 cheered them on. After Day 1, Class of '83 David Neville offered  words of wisdom to prepare our team for Day 2: "Today - good or bad - is the past. What are you going to do next?"
