LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team opens the home portion of its 2022 schedule this weekend, hosting Lafayette College in non-conference play on Gray-Minor Field. The games are slated for Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

VMI and Lafayette have played three-game series in Lexington twice in the recent past. The Leopards took two of three in 2020, while the Keydets swept the series in 2018. VMI has a 24-7 all-time record against Lafayette.

The Keydets have played four games thus far, all against ranked teams. Will Knight has a team-best .385 average with five RBI and .529 on base and .692 slugging percentages. Trey Morgan has a .353 average with five runs scored while Zac Morris is hitting .333 with a pair of doubles. Reeves Whitmore had a hit and a walk Wednesday at #4-ranked Virginia.

Tyler Bradt was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 21, the first honoree of the 2022 season. Bradt threw six strong innings Friday in VMI's upset of #23 ranked Duke University, allowing just one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out eight Blue Devils. The right-hander picked up the win and had an ERA on the day of 1.50.

Lafayette has started the season 0-4 after playing in four games in Winston-Salem, N.C last weekend. Carter Dorighi is hitting .600 in 10 at bats while Kyle Chmielewski has a .429 average. Easton Brenner and Michael Zarrillo each have .385 averages and Frank Craska has a 2.25 ERA in four innings out of the bullpen.
