LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's basketball team rolled to a 100-58 victory over Penn State New Kensington Thursday evening in the Keydets 2022-23 home opener. It was the first victory for new head mentor
Andrew Wilson as the head coach at VMI.
Freshmen guards
Asher Woods (22) and
Tony Felder, Jr. (20) each broke the 20-point barrier and posted career-high point totals.
How it happened:
*VMI turned a 10-9 lead into a 23-11 advantage after a 13-2 run
*The Keydets led 51-33 at intermission and quickly used a 17-2 run to blow the game open 68-35
*Felder, Jr. added seven assists, five rebounds and two steals
*Woods' 22 points were a game-high and he also had six rebounds and four assists

Devin Butler drilled five three pointers for a career-high 15 points to go with five rebounds

Taeshaud Jackson II posted 15 points and six rebounds
*
DJ Nussbaum and Ricky Bradley, Jr. each had eight points and combined for 11 boards
*Andre Hayes led the Nittany Lions (0-2) with nine points
Also Noteworthy:
*VMI last scored 100 points in last year's home opener, a 111-55 victory over Carlow College
*The victory is the Keydets' third-straight home opening victory
