The two teams have squared off 12 times in their history, with VMI nearly pulling off a victory September 14, 2019 on Patchin Field. The Keydets took a 1-0 lead late in the first half as
Nathan Lam assisted
Brandon Hornung and the lead held up until the late
stages of the game. The Runnin' Bulldogs netted a goal with 12 minutes left and the game-winner with just over two minutes to play.
Broden Schull made seven saves for VMI.
Gardner-Webb will be playing its fifth Southern Conference school in as many games Saturday. G-WU dropped contests to Mercer (0-4), UNCG (0-2), Furman (1-2) and Wofford (0-1) earlier in the season.
The Keydets return home on Wednesday to host Radford University on Patchin Field at 4 p.m.
