LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team has its last scheduled non-conference game of the 2021 season Tuesday against visiting Norfolk State University in Gray-Minor Stadium at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
As the regular season winds to a close, the Keydets have seven games remaining on the docket, including six Southern Conference contests. VMI hosts ETSU this weekend and travels to UNCG next weekend.
Red-shirt freshman first baseman
Justin Starke followed up his incredible April performance at the plate with a good week last week as well. The SoCon April Player of the month hit .636 last week in three SoCon games against division-leading Samford University. He doubled and stole two bases with two RBI. Starke had a .727 slugging percentage and was perfect in his 26 chances in the field.
Corner outfielders
Will Knight and
Cody Warner are the only two Keydets to start all 40 games this seasons. Knight is hitting .296 with a .412 on base percentage and a .447 slugging percentage. Warner, usually hitting out of the leadoff spot, is hitting .266 with a .370 on base percentage and five stolen bases.
Norfolk State has a 19-24 record this season. Alsander Womack is hitting .331 and leads the team with 39 runs and 29 RBI with 14 stolen bases. Danny Hosley had a team-best .361 batting average and eight stolen bases.
