McKenna Imset and Sydney Shettleroe Earn All-MAAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. –VMI's McKenna Imset and Sydney Shettleroe each earned spots on the 2021 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Water Polo Team, announced Friday morning by the conference office.

Imset, a red-shirt junior, was named to the first team. She is fresh off her second MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Award Thursday and for the season she leads the team with 48 goals. Imset has scored at least two goals in all 11 games she has played in with nine hat tricks. She tied her season high last week with seven goals against both LIU and Iona.

Shettleroe, a sophomore, claimed second-team accolades. She earned the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week award once this season, after breaking the school record for goals in a single match with nine against Mount St. Mary's University (Md.) on March 13. Shettleroe has 44 goals and 22 assists on the season with 32 drawn exclusions and 16 steals.

The Keydets open play at the 2021 MAAC Championship Tournament at Marist College Saturday at noon against top-seeded Long Island University.

Madison Martinez of La Salle University was named the 2021 Women's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Year, while the Defensive Player of the Year was Marina Hyham of Marist College. Long Island University's Paola Dominguez earned the 2021 Women's Water Polo Rookie of the Year award and Marist's Chris Vidale was named the BSN Sports 2021 Women's Water Polo Coach of the Year.
