LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's water polo team will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this weekend at home against La Salle and Villanova Universities. The Keydets' home opener in Clark King Pool is set for 10 a.m. against La Salle and 2 p.m. against Villanova.
The two matches will be open to guests of the participating cadet-athletes and the Institute at a limited capacity. Unfortunately they will not be open to the general public. Please contact the VMI Ticket Office for more information.

Both visiting schools are noted on the most recent
Collegiate Water Polo Top 25 Poll, with La Salle coming in tied for #24 and the Wildcats also receiving votes.
The program's two seniors,
McKenna Imset and
Zoe Salafatinos, will be honored prior to the second match.
The Keydets had tight matches against both squads the last time they met in 2019. VMI defeated La Salle twice (14-13 & 11-7) and split with Villanova (8-7 and 7-12).
For the 2021 season, sophomore
Sydney Shettleroe leads VMI with 25 goals and is second with 35 points. Sophomore
Catherine Ahumada has a team-high 38 points, posting 18 goals and 20 assists. Junior
Genevieve Petrassi has handed out a team-best 25 assists while freshman
Rachel Ahumada has 16 steals.
