LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team will compete in its first dual meets of the season Sunday in a tri-match at Franklin & Marshall University. The Keydets will face Long Island University at noon and F&M at 2 p.m. LIU is slated to face F&M at 4 p.m. to round out the day.

The Keydets faced both foes in the 2019-20 season, dropping a close 19-17 decision to the Diplomats, and defeated LIU 29-12 in the Patriot Duals. Current VMI wrestler Job Chishko won his matches against both opponents. In the Keydets last outing on Nov. 20, Tyler Mousaw placed fourth and Zach Brown finished sixth at the Navy Classic.

In his first action of the 2021 season, Mousaw pinned his opening opponent, Ben Stemmet of The Citadel, in just 1:35. The sophomore 197-pounder defeated Brad Wilson of Michigan State 13-7 and later scored a major decision before his day was finished.

Brown, a junior wrestling at 184 pounds, received a first-round bye. He defeated Bruno Stolfi 3-2 of Bloomsburg in the second round before falling to nationally ranked David Key from Navy.

The Keydets host West Virginia University next Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cormack Hall.
