VMI Rifle Earns Program Record Score Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI rifle teams turned in a solid performance Saturday morning hosting The Citadel mixed and women's team as well as Wofford College as the VMI mixed team topped The Citadel women while both Keydet rifle squads defeated Wofford at Kilbourne Hall on the VMI post.
 
The Citadel mixed team took top honors with a school record mark of 4608 aggregate points (2280 SB 2328) and was followed by the second-place VMI mixed team (2254 SB, 2298 AR), which also performed well with a school-record aggregate score of 4552.
 
The Citadel women placed third with 4426 points (2175 SB, 2250 AR) and the VMI women came in fourth with 4375 points (2116 SB, 2259 AR). Wofford College arrived in fifth overall with 3657 points (1622 SB, 2036 AR).
 
Freshman Austin Rheuby led the VMI mixed team in the smallbore with a 567 for fourth place overall and was trailed closely by Simon Krauthamer, who logged a 565 in fifth place. Stephen Garner had the third best score for the mixed team bringing in a 562 for sixth place overall and Jessica Hankin also scored team points with her 560 score in eighth place.  Kolton Dobson, Michael Annesi, J. Nathaniel Gardner and Philip Frey also competed for the mixed team in the smallbore.
 
The VMI women were led by Cassidy Dufour in the smallbore with her 16th place score of 540. Maxine Gray-Barth logged the second-best score for the VMi women with her 18th-place mark of 537. Laini Morgan (23rd, 520) and Katie Grochalski (24th, 519) also scored team points for the women.  Victoria Phillips also competed and tallied a 496 for 25th place overall.
 
In the air rifle segment, Christopher Hicks led the VMI mixed team with a 581 for third place overall and Samantha Reid came in fifth with a 578 score. Jessica Hankin (9th, 573) and Simon Krauthamer (10th, 571) also scored team points for the competition with their respective finishes. Kolton Dobson and Austin Rheuby were not far behind in the competition and logged respective scores of 571 and 566 for the mixed team. Philip Frey, Ryan Harlow, Savanah Diamond and Michael Annesi also competed for the mixed team in the air rifle category.
 
Grochalski led the VMI women in the air rifle with her eighth-place finish of 574 points for the competition while Dufour came in 12th with a 570. Gray-Barth (19th, 562) and Phlillips (24th, 553) also scored points for the squad.  Freshman Laini Morgan also competed for VMI and shot a 544 for 26th place overall.
 
The Keydets turn around quickly to face Nebraska Sunday morning at 8 a.m. from Kilbourne Hall.
