ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Tyler Mousaw placed fourth and
Zach Brown finished sixth for the VMI wrestling team Saturday at the Navy Classic in Wesley Brown Field House.
In his first action of the 2021 season, Mousaw pinned his opening opponent, Ben Stemmet of The Citadel, in just 1:35. The sophomore 197-pounder defeated Brad Wilson of Michigan State 13-7 and later scored a major decision before his day was finished.
Brown, a junior wrestling at 184 pounds, received a first-round bye. He defeated Bruno Stolfi 3-2 of Bloomsburg in the second round before falling to nationally ranked David Key from Navy.
Luke Hart scored a pin at 149 pounds and
Max Gourley had a major decision victory at 184 pounds.
Luke Fegley won a match by decision at 141 pounds,
Jon Hoover earned a win at 174 pounds and
Job Chishko lost two decisions by just one point each (2-1 and 6-5) at 165 pounds
The Keydets finished 11
th in the team standings with 22.5 points in a strong field, with Michigan State capturing the team title and Ohio University taking second.
VMI travels to Lancaster, Pa. Sunday, Dec. 5 for a tri-match against Franklin & Marshall College and Long Island University.
