LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team released its 2022 schedule on Friday, with 26 home games on the docket and several familiar foes slated for non-conference action.
The Keydets open the campaign at defending ACC Champion Duke University Feb. 18-20 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The early schedule gets no easier as VMI heads to Charlottesville to face another NCAA Tournament team in the University of Virginia on Feb. 22. The Cavaliers advanced to the College World Series in 2021 and finished the season ranked #6 by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball.
Lafayette University (Pa.) is the first visitor to Lexington and Gray-Minor Stadium Feb. 25-27, and VMI is also scheduled to host Binghamton, Lehigh and Rider in non-conference weekend series in March. Penn State comes to town for a single game on March 8 and in-state rivals Virginia Tech, Richmond, Old Dominion, VCU and James Madison fill out much of the remaining non-conference slate. The Keydets also have a game at the University of North Carolina and non-conference weekend series at Georgetown University and UNC-Wilmington.
The Keydets open Southern Conference action at Samford University April 8-10 and host The Citadel the next weekend. VMI also hosts Western Carolina and Wofford in league play.
The 2022 season concludes at the Southern Conference Championship Tournament May 24-29 at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.
