Parham Repeats as SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI's Greg Parham has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO after averaging 25.0 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the floor on the week. The award is selected by the league office and is Parham's second straight.
 
Parham started his week with 24 points in a 74-73 win over league-leading Furman on Wednesday, scoring 22 of his points in the second half and 12 straight in the final minutes as the Keydets handed the Paladins their first league loss. The senior from Richmond, Virginia, was 8-for-15 from the floor (.533) and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, adding two rebounds, four assists, a block and two steals against Furman, which entered the contest ranked No. 4 nationally in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
 
Parham followed that up three days later with his sixth straight 20-point game, scoring 26 in an 83-80 loss at Mercer. The guard again had two rebounds and added two assists and a steal. Parham was 10-for-21 from the floor (.476) and had another perfect day at the line, sinking all four of his free-throw attempts against the Bears, who, like Furman, are in the top 100 in the NET rankings.
 
Parham finished the week 18-for-36 from the floor and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, hitting a pair of three-pointers in each contest. He leads the league in scoring in SoCon games at 25.1 points per game.
 
Parham's selection this week marks the Keydets' first consecutive SoCon Player of the Week honors since Jason Bell claimed back-to-back awards in weeks two and three of the 1997-98 season.

VMI (8-8, 3-4 SoCon) hosts Western Carolina (7-7, 0-5) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
