LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team will host a tri-meet this Saturday with Ohio and Campbell Universities in Cormack Hall. The event is sold out.

Match schedule:
3:30 p.m. – VMI vs. Ohio U

VMI opened its 2021 home season with a 30-9 victory over Sacred Heart University (Conn.) Saturday in non-conference action. The Keydets won seven of the 10 weight classes, and avenged a 30-9 defeat last year at Sacred Heart. Freshman Luke Fegley had the only pins of the day, scoring two wins by fall at 133 - one in an exhibition match.

Presbyterian was originally scheduled for the meet but was replaced by Ohio earlier in the week. VMI's match against Campbell will be the Southern Conference opener for both teams, while the Ohio matches will be non-conference clashes. 

Campbell dropped a 28-6 decision to #8 Virginia Tech to open the season Jan. 2. Benjamin Barton earned Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week honors on January 6 for defeating his Virginia Tech opponent, ranked #25 at the time, 7-4 at 141 pounds. Campbell has won the last two SoCon titles.

Ohio University has faced a tough schedule thus far, falling to Buffalo, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. The Bobcats were originally scheduled to compete in the Clarion Quad Meet this weekend, but the event was cancelled.
