EDISON, N.J. – Six Keydets were part of a conference-record number of student-athletes that were named to the 2019-20 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll Monday.
Bridget Hughes,
Makenna Moore,
Emma Noble,
Emma Perez,
Isabel French and
Genevieve Petrassi each earned spots on the honor roll. The six were part of the 14-player women's water polo team, the only VMI sport to take part in MAAC competition as an associate member.
To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Academic Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members in the MAAC. All 23 conference-sponsored sports are represented.
Since the 2006-07 season, the total number of student-athletes named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll has increased every year to 2,722 this year.
"In an unprecedented year of sports, it's nice to see that academics were still at the forefront at all of our institutions," said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "I'd like to congratulate all of the student-athletes who put in the hard work on and off the field. This record number of Academic Honor Roll recipients is a true testament to their, as well as their institutions, commitment to excellence."
In addition to the 2,722 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, an additional 90 Esports student-athletes are honored as well. Esports was recognized as an official MAAC Club Sport this past year, holding championships in four gaming titles in an online format after the cancellation of the on-site championships in Atlantic City, N.J.
