Keydet Water Polo heads north again this weekend
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's water polo team will travel to Western Pennsylvania for the third-straight weekend for a total of four matches.
The Keydets will play Friday and Saturday at the Grove City College Invitational, and make the short trek to Ohio Sunday for a single match at Wittenberg University at 1 p.m.
VMI will face four teams it has already played this winter at Grove City, playing Mercyhurst University (4:15 p.m.) and Salem International (6:45 p.m.) Friday and Gannon University (10:30 a.m.) and Grove City (2:15 p.m.) Saturday. The Keydets will look to avenge a 12-10 defeat by Mercyhurst on Feb. 16 at the Laker Invite, the only blemish on VMI's record thus far.
Senior goalkeeper Issi French was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Water Polo Defensive Player of the Week for the week of February 26.
French made 33 saves in three games this weekend at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational, going 3-0 with a 55.9% save percentage. She made 14 stops in a 10-9 overtime win over Salem International University Saturday and 12 saves against McKendree University Sunday in a 12-9 victory.
