James Madison defeated VMI twice last year, both by single runs (5-4 and 9-8). The Keydets last played Norfolk State in the 2013 season, with VMI winning the home-and-home series.
Despite going 1-3 last week, the Keydets had some very positive numbers in those four games. VMI pitchers held opponents to a .178 batting average for the week. Red-shirt sophomore outfielder
Will Knight hit .600 against the University of Virginia and
Lafayette College to be named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week. He slugged .867 with four doubles and three RBI. He hit safely in all four games and had three hits twice, at UVA Wednesday and in the second game against Lafayette Saturday.
VMI hosts Quinnipiac University (Conn.) this weekend in a three game series, starting Friday at 3 p.m.
