VMI Water Polo Takes Two at W&J Invite
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The VMI women's water polo team won both of its matches Saturday at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational. The Keydets won in very different fashion, breaking the program record for goals in a game in a 27-12 win over Grove City College, and capturing a 10-9 win in overtime over Salem International University (W. Va.).
A total of nine Keydets got on the scoreboard in the win against Salem, snapping the old mark of 25 set last year. Junior
Zoe Salafatinos had six goals, a school single game-record nine steals and two assists. Sophomore
Kiara Anguiano netted seven goals while
Genevieve Petrassi compiled four tallies, one assist and three steals.
Gia Donatelli had three goals and two assists,
Maddie Berry and
Catherine Ahumada each had two goals and an assist and
McKenna Imset had a goal and three assists.
Emma Perez had four assists,
Makenna Moore posted a goal and two assists and
Emma Noble had a goal with an assist.
Bridget Hughes made six saves.
The score after regulation against Salem was 8-8 and Petrassi and Ahumada each scored in overtime to give VMI the victory. Petrassi had four goals in the game with three assists and three steals. Imset and Ahumada each scored twice and Moore (two assists) and Noble had a goal apiece. Issi French made 13 stops in goal.
The Keydets (5-1) will play McKendree (9:10 a.m.) and Gannon Universities (1:50 p.m.) Sunday to wrap up the W&J Invite.
