Keydet Wrestling Sweeps The Citadel and Presbyterian
 
CHARLESTON and CLINTON, S.C. – The VMI wrestling team swept two important Southern Conference road matches Saturday, a thrilling 20-19 win over The Citadel and a 34-10 win at Presbyterian College. With the victories, the Keydets move into fourth place in the eight-team conference.
 
In a bout where every point mattered, The Citadel took a 16-6 lead with just four matches remaining. Red-shirt senior Neal Richards earned six points with a quick pin (1:06) at 174, followed by an 7-3 decision for Max Gallahan at 184 to make it a one-point match. Freshman Zach Brown picked up five points with an 18-0 tech fall victory to put The Keydets ahead 20-16 and Chris Beck lost a tight 3-2 decision at 285 to make the final score 20-19. Cliff Conway and Will Lawrence each won by decision at 133 and 157, respectively.
 
Seven Keydets won their matches at Presbyterian later on Saturday. Conway earned his second victory of the day, 5-3 at 133. Noah Roulo pinned his foe at 141 as did Chris Beck at 285. Seth Fillers won by a major decision at 149 and Jon Hoover won as well at 165. Richards and Brown won via forfeit.
 
VMI (6-12/3-3 SoCon) closes out the regular season Sunday at Appalachian State University at 3 p.m.
