VMI is 1-3 on the year but nearly pulled off a big upset Wednesday at the University of Virginia. The Keydets held a 3-0 lead Wednesday after six frames, but the Cavaliers narrowly avoided the upset in a 4-3 come-from-behind win.
A pair of freshmen held the Cavaliers offense silent for the first six innings.
Ben Capehart started and allowed just one hit with no walks over two frames, followed by four scoreless innings from
Trey Morgan. Morgan struck out three and gave up just one hit and one walk.
Red-shirt sophomore
Will Knight was 3-4 against UVA with a pair of doubles and has a red-hot .529 average in four games this season. With two doubles and a triple he has a slugging percentage of .765 and four RBI. Morgan has appeared in three games out of the bullpen and has yet to allow a run in seven innings.
Lafayette opened the season last weekend at High Point University and was swept in a three-game set. Dylan Minghini is hitting .538 with two homers to pace the Leopard offense thus far.
