Keydet Water Polo Opens 2020 Season with Two Victories
ERIE, Pa. – The VMI women's water polo team had a successful start to the 2020 season Saturday, picking up a pair of victories at the Mercyhurst University Laker Invitational.
VMI defeated McKendree University (Ill.) 13-8 behind four goals from
Emma Perez in the first match of the season.
Makenna Moore tallied two goals, four assists and two steals, while
McKenna Imset had a hat trick.
Emma Noble scored twice,
Sydney Shettleroe had a goal and two assists in her first collegiate match and
Catherine Ahumada had a goal and an assist. Isabella French made 13 saves in net.
The Keydets finished the day with a 14-12 win over Salem University (W. Va.). Moore exploded for three goals, four assists and two steals and Imset recorded four goals and an assist. Shettleroe had two goals and an assist, while Perez,
Kiara Anguiano and
Zoe Salafatinos each posted a goal and an assist. Ahumada also scored and French made eight stops.
VMI (2-0) is back in action Sunday at Mercyhurst with games slated against Gannon (11:45 a.m.) and the host Lakers (3:30 p.m.).
