Wrestling to Host VMI Quad Friday

LEXINGTON, VA – The Keydet wrestling team will host the VMI Quad Friday in Cormack Hall, with California Baptist, Clarion and Cleveland State University all taking part. The action begins at 11 a.m. with VMI vs. California Baptist and Clarion squaring off with Cleveland State. A second set of matches is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the final duals of the day slated for 3 p.m.

"Quads are fun and unique," said VMI head coach Jim Gibson.  "They simulate a tournament, but keep intact the excitement of a dual meet." 

"Each guy will get three matches in the day.  Everything is preparation for March.  I believe the more often we can put them in situations that emulate the SoCon tournament the better." 

"All of these teams bring something a little different in terms of age and experience. With a team like ours that has five freshman in the lineup, it's exciting to compete with three teams that will challenge us and give us a chance to get a win." 

The Keydets are coming off a highly successful entry in the Southern Scuffle Tournament Jan. 1-2 hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Neal Richards captured fifth place at 174, finishing ahead of three nationally-ranked wrestlers. Zach Brown and Chris Beck finished one win away from placing in the top eight at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively.   

VMI has a quick turnaround following the Quad, traveling to Fairfield, Conn. to face Sacred Heart University Sunday at 2 p.m.
