Keydets Conclude Southern Scuffle
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The VMI wrestling team had three competitors fighting for awards Thursday at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Red-shirt senior Neal Richards took fifth place at 174 pounds, defeating 18th-ranked Dean Sherry of Rider in the fifth-place match. He finished ahead of three nationally ranked wrestlers.
Christopher Beck (285) and Zachary Brown (197) each fell just short of the top eight in the consolation brackets Thursday.
The Keydets finished 18th in a strong 34-team field.
VMI returns home to Cormack Hall next Friday, Jan. 10, hosting California Baptist (11 a.m.), Clarion University (1 p.m.) and Cleveland State (3 p.m.)
