VMI Water Polo Splits Two MAAC Matches
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's water polo team split a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches Saturday in Clark King Pool. The Keydets are hosting the seven other MAAC water polo school this weekend for a total of 13 games, eight completed Saturday and five more set for Sunday.
#21 Marist 13, VMI 5
Marist opened a 2-0 lead, but the Keydets fought back with tallies from Zoe Salafatinos and Sarah Dolitsky to knot the score at two midway through the first period. Marist posted six-straight goals to take control of the game.
Red-shirt freshman McKenna Imset had a hat trick with two steals for VMI. Dolitsky had a goal and an assist and Salafatinos added three steals. Isabel French made 10 saves.
VMI 9, Siena 5
The Keydets used a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 advantage just before intermission. Siena cut the score to 6-4 entering the fourth quarter, but three-straight VMI goals put the game away.
Imset had four goals in the contest and Dolitsky added three. Emma Noble and Genevieve Petrassi each had a tally and Makenna Moore had two assists. French was outstanding in net, making 16 saves. Georgia Vargas had three goals for Siena.
VMI (11-5/1-1 MAAC) hosts St. Francis (Brooklyn) at 10:30 a.m. and La Salle at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
