Iona Defeats VMI Water Polo 11-8

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Iona University broke open a tie game late in the third period and went on to defeat the VMI women's water polo team 11-8 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match hosted by Wagner College in the Spiro Sports Center Natatorium.

Iona took a 4-2 lead after the first period, but two Keydet goals in the second stanza tied the score at four all. Red-shirt freshman McKenna Imset found the back of the net with two minutes left in the third to tie the game at six entering the fourth. Iona scored the first next four goals and held on for the victory.

Isabel French made 13 saves for the Keydets. Imset and Emma Perez each scored twice, Kiara Anguiano, Zoe Salafatinos, Emma Noble and Sarah Dolitsky had one goal apiece. Makenna Moore had an assist and two steals.

Jillian Schultz had three goals and three steals for Iona (10-14/4-3 MAAC).

VMI (14-7/4-3 MAAC) will play four more MAAC matches April 6-7 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
