VMI Water Polo Drops Two at Laker Invite
ERIE, Pa. – The VMI women's water polo team dropped a pair of contests Sunday, one a heartbreaker, at the Laker Invitational hosted by Mercyhurst University.
Bucknell 19, VMI 5
Bucknell, ranked #22 in the nation this week in NCAA Division I, opened a 14-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Sarah Dolitsky had two goals for VMI, Emma Noble had a goal and two assists and Zoe Salafatinos and McKenna Imset also scored. Amber Hammel had two assists and Isabel French made seven saves.
Mercyhurst 7, VMI 6
In their second match of the day, the Keydets opened a 6-3 lead midway through the third quarter. Three-straight Laker goals tied the game and Sarah Hershey scored the game-winner with just one second on the game clock.
French had 11 saves for VMI (3-2). Dolitsky had a hat trick, Noble scored twice and Salafatinos had a tally.
Hershey had four scores for Mercyhurst.
VMI travels to St. Paul, Minnesota next weekend for the Macalester College Invitational with five matches scheduled in a three-day span.
