Keydets Drop 91-82 Contest at USC Upstate

Box Score VALLEY FALLS, S.C. - Rallying from down 48-41 at the half, the VMI basketball team stood firm with host USC Upstate but ultimately fell by a 91-82 score Sunday afternoon at the G.B. Hodge Center in Valley Falls, South Carolina.

The Keydets (5-9, 0-1) played better in the second half and allowed Upstate (5-8, 0-0) only two more points than themselves by scoring 41 points and surrendering 43 on the other end of the court.

Freshman guard Travis Evee played his fourth 20-point game of the year and has led the team in scoring all five games in December. He finished with 25 points against the Spartans while senior Garrett Gilkeson poured in 15 points. Fellow freshman Kamdyn Curfman scored 11 points on the afternoon while junior Myles Lewis contributed nine points.

Upstate's Everette Hammond scored a game-high 31 points in the contest while Brandon Martin proved to be a scoring threat with 23 points.

The Keydets return home to resume conference play Wednesday, January 1 with a 1 p.m. matchup with Furman. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ from Cameron Hall.
