Strong Start Gives VMI Win over Occidental

LOS ANGELES – A strong offensive attack through three quarters lifted the VMI water polo team to a 14-10 victory over Occidental Thursday night at Taylor Pool in Los Angeles.

A 12-4 lead at the end of the third period allowed the Keydets (14-8) to withstand six Occidental goals in the fourth period while adding two security goals themselves to earn the 14-10 victory.

Junior Sarah Dolitsky scored five goals for the third time this season to match her career high and lead the way for VMI as she put in two in both the first and third periods. Senior Shelby Barkley and sophomore Emma Noble registered three goals apiece while Natalie Rivas scored twice and Zoe Salafatinos once.

VMI goalie Isabel French played three quarters and earned eight saves before she was replaced by Catie Berry in the fourth.

The Keydets conclude their California trip Friday with an early 11 a.m. match against La Verne.
