POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Falling to two ranked teams Saturday, the VMI water polo team was eager to get back to the pool Sunday as it claimed a 14-8 win over Siena in the morning and a 9-5 victory over Villanova in the afternoon at Marist College's McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Against Siena, the Keydets saw five goals from Cecilya Lundy, four from Shelby Barkley, two from Bailey Huddleston and Natalie Rivas and one from Sophia DelBondio. The victory over the Saints was the second in as many weeks after defeating them by a 17-11 score last Saturday.
In the afternoon matchup with Villanova, the Keydets earned redemption from a loss last week to the Wildcats by claiming a 9-5 victory, just hours after Villanova had upset No. 23 Marist in the morning session.
Lundy led the way with three goals for the Keydets followed by two from Madison Curran and Rivas and one apiece for Barkley and Huddleston.
VMI returns to action next weekend with Saturday matches against St. Francis (12 p.m.) and No. 20 Wagner at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Keydets face Iona at 10:30 a.m. and Marist once again at 2:30 p.m.
