PASADENA, Calif. - Paced by Cecilya Lundy's five goals, the VMI water polo team cruised to an 18-4 victory over host Caltech Tuesday afternoon in Pasadena, California.
Lundy scored two goals in the first two minutes of the match before Natalie Rivas scored twice later in the quarter to give the Keydets a 4-0 advantage after the first period.
The second quarter was equally successful for VMI as the Keydets saw their lead balloon to a 9-1 advantage after scoring five goals over the eight-minute span. Caroline Wojtas struck first followed by goals from Shelby Barkley and Haley Scott. Freshmen Wojtas and Sarah Dolitsky added the final goals of the period for VMI.
VMI would go on to score nine goals throughout the second half and allow just three Caltech scores over the final two periods.
Goalie Emily Farsakian recorded three saves during the first half while Catie Berry logged one save in the second.
The Keydets have Wednesday off before facing La Verne College Thursday at 4 p.m. PDT in La Verne, California.
