CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - VMI water polo wrapped up the Harvard Invite by splitting two games Sunday in Cambridge, Mass.
In the early game, the Keydets grabbed their second victory of the year with an 18-7 triumph over Connecticut College, a team formerly coached by current VMI head man Ryan Pryor. VMI raced out to a 14-2 lead and never looked back en route to the win, behind three goals from Mackenzie Perkins.
The later contest saw the Keydets (2-6) drop a dramatic 12-11 decision to the host Crimson. Celine Lazzaro scored with 7:03 to go to give the Keydets an 11-10 lead, but that would be VMI's last goal as Harvard tied the game with 3:03 left and put home the game-winner at the 1:09 mark. Shelby Barkley continued her strong weekend with a pair of goals in the loss, while Rebecca Serrano and Bailey Huddleston chipped in two apiece as well.
VMI water polo will return to action March 13, as the Keydets open their annual west coast swing at a tournament hosted by Cal Baptist in Riverside, Calif.
