The Series
Saturday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the Keydets and the Spiders on the lacrosse field. Other than the University of Virginia, VMI has not played a Division I opponent from the Commonwealth since 2001 when Radford University sponsored men's lacrosse.
On This Date: April 26
Saturday will be VMI's eighth game all-time on April 26. The Keydets are 1-6 all-time on this date, but surprisingly, have only played at home twice in the programs 30 previous seasons. VMI is 1-1 in Lexington on this date. VMI has not played on April 26 since a double overtime loss at Manhattan (8-7) in 2008.
Back-to-Back Hat Tricks
In VMI's last two games, senior attackman Mickey Hofmeister has registered at least three goals, potting four against Furman and another three at Canisius. It is the first time in his career he has gone for back-to-back hat tricks.
Hofmeister is the first Keydet to manage the feat since Drew Leonard and Mike DeBlasio did in 2012. Leonard had back-to-back hat tricks on March 24 and 31 of that season, while DeBlasio ran off three-straight games with hat tricks on March 13, 24 and 31.
Honoring Our Seniors
Prior to Saturday's game, the team will recognize the Class of 2014. Seniors that will be honored are Mickey Hofmeister, Rory Dillon and Eric Alter.
