CLINTON, S.C. - All of the scoring in Saturday's Big South Conference men's soccer game between the Virginia Military Institute and Presbyterian College was done in the first 25 minutes as the Blue Hose edged the Keydets 3-1 at Edens Field at Martin Stadium.
The Blue Hose (3-6-0, 1-1-0 BSC) got back-to-back goals from Igancio Monchetti in the 14th and 21st minutes, with Nico Fazio scoring in the eighth minute to give PC the lead. VMI (1-8-1, 1-3-0 BSC) got its tally from Aaron White, who extended his point streak to three games. Sophomore Kyle Forché had the assist on the back end of White's goal.
Presbyterian's Cade Crowe and Charles Blakenship had assists on the teams first two goals. Monchetti's second goal was not assisted.
Senior Daniel Kitchen made eight saves in the game, playing in the first 80 minutes. Sophomore Alex Guerra saw his first time since Oct. 13, 2012, finishing the final 10 minutes of the tilt. The backup, who had a foot injury early in the season, made one save in his first appearance of 2013. Opposite the Keydets, Blue Hose keeper Tyler Beadle made eight stops, playing in all 90 minutes.
Despite taking a season-high 17 shots, the Keydets allowed PC 23. The Blue Hose held a narrow 12-10 advantage after the first half, but out-shot VMI 11-7 in the second stanza. VMI earned four corner kicks while the Blue Hose took 10, with eight coming in the second half.
VMI was whistled for nine fouls in the opening 45 minutes while PC was called for just a pair. However, the Blue Hose committed 11 fouls in the second stanza against VMI's six.
The Keydets continue the road trend next week as the Keydets head to Conway, S.C. for a Big South Conference tilt with No. 19 Coastal Carolina University. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University Soccer Field.
