BROOKLYN
HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The VMI water polo team opened its second weekend of Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference this Saturday. VMI had one of its best outings of
the year in its second game but fell 12-5 against Iona College. In the opener,
VMI was blanked 18-0 by Wagner College.
Molly
Andoe scored four of VMI's five goals on the afternoon while Chelsea Nugent
added one a well. Against Iona, VMI's keeper Amanda Berrios made three saves in
her three quarters played, while Tatiana Wabrek saw all eight minutes of the
second quarter. In the first game, Berrios made three saves, playing in all 32
minutes.
After
being blanked in the first quarter of the Iona game, the VMI (1-16, 0-5 MAAC)
slowly got its offense together. Andoe ripped the first goal of the second
quarter. All of the scoring in the third belonged to VMI as Andoe book ended
Nugent's goal with tallies of her own.
VMI
returns to MAAC action on Sunday when it takes on St. Francis (N.Y.) and
Villanova University at 9 a.m. and noon, respectively. Those two games will be
played at Wagner College.
