POUGHKEEPSIE,
N.Y. – Despite six goals from freshman captain Molly Andoe, the VMI women's
water polo team fell twice in its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
weekend. The Keydets dropped a 15-5 decision against Siena College and 13-4
against St. Francis (N.Y.).
Andoe
was VMI's leading scorer in the pair of Saturday games, which were contested at
Marist College. In the opener against Siena, Andoe stuck home three goals,
including two in the second quarter and one each in the third and fourth.
Mackenzie Perkins chipped in VMI's fifth goal against the Saints.
Siena's
offense was led by Cally Timm and Rebecca Robinson, who tallied four goals
apiece. Katie Ness had a hat trick for the Saints while Lea Allen had a pair of
markers. Jacquelyn Verdon accounted for Siena's 15th goal.
In the
night cap, Andoe scored once in the second quarter and another in the fourth.
Her fellow captain, Sam Farr, tallied the first goal for VMI (1-13, 0-2 MAAC),
striking once against the Terriers in the first quarter. Freshman Heather
Magill also scored against St. Francis (N.Y.).
For St. Francis, Paige Hardy was the game's leading goal-getter, putting up
seven tallies. Regina Toth was the Terriers' only other multiple goal scorer,
striking twice. Alana Hernandez, Cami Bird, Paloma Szivos and Ryenn Lyons all
had one goal.
Between
the pipes, senior keeper Amanda Berrios made eight saves on the afternoon, including
six against the Terriers.
VMI
rounds out its first MAAC weekend on Sunday in a single game, squaring off with
Marist at 1:30 p.m. That game is scheduled to be played in New Rochelle, N.Y.
at Iona College's Hynes Center Pool.
