RIVERSIDE,
Calif./REDLANDS, Calif. – The VMI women's water polo opened play at the Lancer
Invite on Friday night, its second tournament of the spring furlough trip to
California. The Keydets hung tough with both George Washington University and University
of Redlands, but fell in both contests.
In the
opener, VMI dropped a 19-7 decision to George Washington University followed by
a 15-6 loss against Redlands, which hosted the second game. The Keydets and
Colonials squared off at Cal Baptist in Riverside, Calif.
Against
George Washington, the Keydets (1-9) got each period off to a solid start,
winning three of the game's four sprints. Senior soccer goalie come water polo
keeper Amanda Berrios made seven saves. On the offensive end, senior captain

In the
night cap, Berrios came out of the cage and turned in a nine save effort.
Several of her stops were with aggressive lines on the shooter. At the opposite
end of the pool, Perkins extended her scoring streak to 10 games, finishing
with a team-high four goals. Andoe posted one marker, as did Katheryne Austin.
