HARRISONBURG, Va. - VMI men's swimming and diving returned to the pool Saturday, taking part in a tri-meet hosted at James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Keydets dropped duals to both American (187-109.5) and Georgetown (194.5-99.5), but did post several podium finishes.
Dallas Disbro was VMI's lone victor on the day, recording a victory in the three-meter diving event. The senior scored 218.40 points in the win, and also finished second in the one-meter event later in the day. Teammate Mitch Sikes was third in both disciplines.
John Kelly also had a strong day for VMI, posting a pair of podium results in the short freestyle sprints. The freshman finished second in the 50 free, posting a time of 22.33 seconds, and then came back to tie for the runner-up spot in the 100 free, doing so in 49.41. Kelly was also a part of the 200 free relay team, which also included Connor McMahon, Forrest Brewster and Stephen Lloyd. That squad finished second in 1:29.96, setting a new VMI freshman record.
A pair of seniors earned third-place finishes in two of their better events, with Matt Dale coming home third in the 200 back (2:01.07) and James Goodwillie doing so in the 200 IM (2:00.36). Chris Dreikorn also recorded a third-place result, doing so in the 50 free (22.53), while Stephen Lloyd posted a 1:48.15 time to finish third in the 200 free.
VMI men's swimming and diving will return to action on Friday, Jan. 27, taking on Limestone at Clark King Pool. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m., and will be VMI's final tune-up before this year's CCSA Championships.
