Haitsuka Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI senior catcher Alex Haitsuka has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, according to information released by the conference Monday. It is Haitsuka's first career Big South Player of the Week honor in his final opportunity to win the award.

Haitsuka batted .600 (6-10) with three runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and two home runs in VMI's three-game series against High Point.  He posted two hits in each game and finished with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.400 slugging percentage.  Haitsuka went 2-4 with a walk in the series opener against the Panthers, followed by a 2-3 effort with a double and home run in game two.  He concluded the week with a double and home run, as well as two runs scored and three RBI in the series finale. 

Seventh-seeded VMI will open the Big South Championship versus #6 Radford at Gray-Minor Stadium Tuesday at 4 p.m.
