LUBBOCK, Texas - VMI shortstop Sam Roberts was named to the Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame's National All-Star Lineup for games played April 11-17, as announced by the organization Wednesday. It marks the third major award of the week for the senior, who was named both Big South and ECAC Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Roberts
had a sensational week at the plate, going 11-15 ( =.733) in four road
wins last week. He also walked six times, including four on Sunday to
tie a school record, and drove in nine runs -- including a lead-off home
run in game two at Charleston Southern. In addition, he swiped six
bases in seven attempts and scored eight runs, including four in
Saturday's 15-12 Keydet win against the Buccaneers. All told, Roberts
reached base in 18 of 23 plate appearances ( =.783 OBP), including
9-of-11 against Charleston Southern. Other than a sacrifice fly in the
CSU opener, Roberts was retired only once by the Bucs, going 9-10 with
all six of his walks. He also picked up a save in the Saturday CSU
game, as well as working two scoreless innings in Wednesday's
non-conference victory at William & Mary.
VMI baseball is back in action Friday, playing host to the Liberty Flames in the opener of a three-game Big South series. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
