DALLAS - The accolades continue to pour in for junior lefthander Trey Barham, as he becomes VMI's first recipient of a National Pitcher of the Week award in baseball, earning the honor from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation (NCBWA) for a week that saw him allow only one hit in ten innings, striking out 11 batters.
Barham (Portsmouth, Va./Greenbrier Christian) collected his sixth win of the season on Saturday, as he struck out eight batters while allowing only two baserunners in a 15-2 win against Savannah State. Just four days previous, Barham struck out three batters in two innings of relief against VCU in a 5-3 win. His line on the week was 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 10 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 11 SO, .031 opponents batting average (1-32).
Barham now ranks second in VMI career history with 15 wins, trailing only Ian Ostlund's total of 16, while he also ranks second in career ERA (3.37), third in strikeouts per nine innings (8.73), and tenth in strikeouts (171). His six wins this season already tie him for fifth-most in school history.
The southpaw also becomes the first Keydet to be named to the Roger Clemens Watch List, given to the national collegiate pitcher of the year, sponsored by the Greater Houston Baseball Organization.
