Men's Soccer Falls on the Road to Wofford, 3-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Wofford junior goalie Joey Taylor kept the Keydets off the scoreboard while scoring his first career goal to lead the Terriers to a 3-0 non-conference win over VMI on Wednesday evening at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

With the win, Wofford improves to 4-8-2 on year, while the Keydets fall to 5-6-2 overall. Wofford also takes control of the series record, now maintaining a 5-4-1 mark against the Keydets.

The Terriers held a 16-6 shot advantage in today's game, although that margin was just 4-3 heading into the half. Wofford scored the opening half's lone goal in the 20th minute when Reed Blair sent a shot back across the goal mouth past VMI goalie Brian Sowell for his first of the season.

Taylor, who made three saves on the day and collected his fifth shutout, took advantage of a scoring chance to net his first career goal on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute. The PK was a result of a VMI foul inside the box off a Wofford corner kick, and Taylor came through by slipping one in the lower right-hand corner for the goal.

Wofford rounded out the day's scoring in the 79th minute when a long throw-in was headed off the ground past Sowell by Terrier's midfielder Callum Easter.

Today's game was a physical contest that produced a total of six yellow cards and 37 fouls. Wofford held a slight advantage in corner kicks by an 11-8 margin.

VMI must now regroup as they resume Big South Conference play next Wednesday, October 24 in a road contest against Radford at RU Soccer Complex. Game is slated for 7 p.m.
