Klint Reed Named Big South Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI sophomore outfielder Klint Reed (Chesterfield, Va.) has been selected as Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball co-Player of the Week for games played Feb. 3-12, it was announced today by the League office.

Reed batted .400 (10-25) in six games to open the 2006 season, helping lead the Keydets to a series win over Auburn and a 3-3 overall mark. Reed reached base safely in each game, recorded three multi-hit games and scored seven runs with four runs batted in, three doubles, one home run and three walks. Against the Tigers, he batted .583, including the game-winning home run in the Keydets' 8-5 game two win, which was VMI's first win over an SEC team since 1922.

Reed was joined by Winthrop sophomore first baseman Mike Konstanty, who hit .316 in Winthrop's first five games, with three homers, nine runs batted in, one double and an .813 slugging percentage, helping the Eagles to series wins over nationally-ranked Miami and Alabama.

Reed and the Keydets return to action on Friday, when they make their home debut, hosting Coppin State at 2 p.m. at Patchin Field.
