LEXINGTON, Va. - Radford University first baseman Mark Fleisher homered for the fifth time in three games against VMI as the Highlanders knocked off the Keydets 9-4 and took a three game series sweep Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.
RBI's singles from B.T. Good (Vienna, Va. / James Madison), Matt Smith (Chesapeake, Va. / Great Bridge) and Elliott Erbe (Portsmouth, Va. / Western Branch) put the Keydets (18-15, 0-6 Big South) up 3-1 after three innings.
But Fleisher's two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning and an RBI triple from Alan Ashworth followed by a run scoring ground out in the fifth put the Highlanders (13-14, 7-2 Big South) on top for good 5-3.
Radford added three more runs in the seventh, including an RBI single from Fleisher.
In the three games against VMI, Fleisher went 6-for-14 with five home runs, six runs scored and 13 RBI's.
Ashworth went 3-for-3 with three RBI's in Sunday's game, and shortstop Stuart Ritchie added three singles and a triple.
The Highlanders' Justin Morgan (2-2) allowed two earned runs in five innings to earn the win, while VMI starter Jimmy Thoms (Newport News, Va. / Denbigh) (2-3) took the loss.
VMI's game against Georgetown University, originally scheduled for April 6, has been move to May 13.
The Keydets host Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina this weekend for one game on Friday and two on Saturday.
